Volunteering with Green Map of the Pikes Peak Region

Current opportunities to help:

1) checking out the map to recommend any changes/additions
- This is done interactively - directly on the online map. For instructions, email greenmap @ gistrainingsource.com.

2) reading the info on the website and making suggestions (or spotting typos!)
- If you find corrections, please email greenmap @ gistrainingsource.com.

Continuing forward, we anticipate needing the following:

MapMakers
- To view, comment, edit, update the map
- One person to “own” each category (for example, bike shops)
o Ensure all points are there
o Check each point in category and details, phone numbers, hyperlinks where appropriate
Copy Writer:
- Write or revise explanations/summaries for website and printed map, press releases, etc.
Programmer:
- Create a search tool online
- program a request form to be on the map (although currently business can put themselves on the map)
Education Czar:
- Bring GreenMap to elementary schools (Get kids involved – there’s a workbook on this)
Researcher:
- Compile a resource list of local environmental organizations and other organizations that support environmental efforts
Liasons:
- Liaison with possible simultaneous efforts at CC and/or UCCS or other (i.e., if they can do site specific or campus-maps, how can we help cross-promote them, etc)
- Liaison with various groups, maybe city/CSU, press, Chamber of Commerce, etc about
o Incorporating trail and bus route data on map
o Securing sponsors for printing of the map
o Helping publicize and distribute printed map
o Other?
- Business liaison – talk to each business that is on the map
o Let them know about it
o Ask if they want to distribute it at their location
o Ask them if they are willing to go “greener” and promote that fact as benefit to potential customers. This goes toward “greening” existing entities, raising overall awareness in the community at large, and creating the momentum and atmosphere so that green soon becomes the new normal, the obvious way to do business (note from Kelly – I’m already seeing this starting happen with the businesses I’ve talked to so far!)
Map Distributor:
- Create distribution plan (# needed, what businesses want to distribute, and plan for getting maps to them)
The Green Guru (i.e., Money):
- Financials keeper and donation tracker (I’ve footed the bills so far, but at some point soon would like Green Map to sustain itself).
o Costs are pretty nominal, and include web hosting and Green Map System fee. I believe we’ll have the map printing cost covered by a supporting business or org.
o We would like to gain support under an existing 501c3 org so we will not need to establish as a new non-profit.
